JOEL LOWERY
When Joel gave his life to Jesus at the age of 17, he knew in his heart that it was "all or nothing" and devoted his life to ministry. For 30 years, Joel has been involved in youth ministry, global missions and church planting. In 2008, Joel and his wife Christina planted Crossroads Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia. 15 years later, Joel would say that his life as a Lead Pastor is a testimony of God's grace and faithfulness. His story is a one of hope for anyone called to be a minister of the Gospel. His passion is to help pastors thrive and minister out of an overflow of the Kingdom. Joel currently serves as the European Missions Director for VUSA and is the Ukraine Partnership Lead.
Joel and Christina have been married for 25 years and have 3 amazing kids. Joel’s favorite places to hang out are at the gym, a nice restaurant or the beach!
CHRISTINA LOWERY
Christina Lowery is the Associate National Director for Church Health and Development for Vineyard USA.
Early in her ministry career, Christina served as the Events Director for a large student ministry called Teen Mania Ministries (Acquire the Fire). In 2001, she and her husband Joel joined a local Vineyard Church there, and served on the pastoral team for several years until they were called to move back to Virginia and plant Crossroads Vineyard.
Christina and Joel have co-pastored Crossroads Church in Fredericksburg, VA since 2008. As a Lead Pastor, Christina has been a big-picture thinker and creative visionary, responsible for communicating and driving the vision and mission of the church forward. She finds great joy in preaching and teaching, leadership development, and building systems that foster church health and growth.
Joel and Christina have been married for 25 years and have 3 kids – Hannah (20), Caleb (18) and Zoe (11). The Lowery family loves to travel and so far, their favorite destination is Maui, with its warm sun and beautiful island beaches.
JULIA DAY
Julia first encountered Jesus when she was a young girl and he’s filled her life with his close presence ever since – her greatest treasure.
After university she worked in the fashion industry until she and her husband, Mike, took the opportunity to move to London in 2020 for three years. During that time they pastored a church community in central London.
Julia and Mike recently welcomed a son, their first child, into the world and returned home to South Africa. They now live Cape Town.
Julia is passionate about God and seeing people transformed by his presence.
MIKE DAY
Mike met Jesus as a sixteen-year-old in Cape Town, and has been following him ever since. Mike is currently a tutor at the School of Leadership and Theology (solt.co.za). He has a background in theology, evangelism and apologetics, having been an itinerant speaker for four years across the UK and Africa before moving back to the UK in 2020 to lead a church community with his wife, Julia.
He holds a first-class bachelors degree in English Literature and Classics from UCT and a post-graduate certificate in education (PGCE) from UNISA. He completed his apologetics training through the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics, his post-graduate studies in Theology at the University of Oxford and a Masters in Theology, Ministry and Mission at St Mellitus College, London. He recently moved back to South Africa with his family to be part of what God is doing in this beautiful nation.
He is passionate about following Jesus, learning, and equipping others to live out their faith in challenging circumstances. When Mike is not thinking too seriously about all this, he enjoys running and South African braais.
MATT NIXON-JAMES
Matt is married to Pips, and dad to Caleb. He is a pastor at the Vineyard Church Dbn and is based in Durban. He is also the co-founder of Urban Ignition and School of Leadership and Theology. He heads up the “Next Gen” national focus area for the Vineyard in South Africa. He has a passion for equipping the Next Generation to give up what the world sees in them, so they can take on what God has in store for them. When he is not hanging out with young people or preparing for Sundays, he is trying to start a podcast or a braai, and be good golfer and gardener.
PIPPA NIXON-JAMES
Pips met Jesus at a young age, and fell in love with Him. She is passionate about seeing the next generation walk wholeheartedly with Jesus. She is married to Matt, and they have an almost-4-year-old son, Caleb.
Phillipa is a qualified Speech and Language therapist, with a special interest in paediatrics. Wanting to enrich her practice, she gained her Masters degree in Developmental Psychology and Child Development from the University of Haifa, Israel, and later obtained a PGCSE in Foundation Phase education. Phillipa is qualified as a Circle of Security parenting facilitator. 8 years ago, after researching how music education shapes the brain, she changed lanes, stepping into full time music education. Within this space, she developed a preschool music curriculum. Phillipa oversees the children’s ministry at Vineyard Church Durban.
Pips loves her garden and her roses, enjoys baking sourdough bread and drinking coffee on lazy Saturday mornings.
